Personal Best · career coaching

Run your career like a strategy, not a lottery.

Personal Best is Sales Playground's careers arm — career strategy and coaching for Australian sales professionals, from landing the role to running the team. Position, plan, practise.

The frame

The pile of 300

Three hundred people applied for that AE role. Two hundred and ninety sent the same résumé, the same "passionate about SaaS" line, the same follow-up. The market doesn't reward the most motivated applicant. It rewards the different one.

The same maths runs all the way up. Promotions go to the rep whose case is built on evidence, not tenure. Patch reviews reward the one who can argue territory economics. Pay rises follow comp literacy — knowing what base, OTE and accelerators are actually worth in Australian dollars, and what to trade. Every applicant has a work ethic. Different is the scarce asset.

Career strategy is a discipline, and almost nobody teaches it. The entry-door bootcamps stop at the first job. The tactics brands stop at this quarter's calls. The whole middle of a sales career — role selection, positioning, promotion planning, the leadership path — is unserved. That's the field Personal Best plays on.

The discipline

A career is a business with one employee.

So we run yours like one. Role and market selection: which companies, which sectors, which sales motion — chosen on evidence, not vibes, because the fastest raise is picking a better patch. Comp literacy, in Australian dollars: base, OTE, accelerators and what each is worth here — no US imports. Positioning: the different application, the evidence portfolio, the case for promotion that reads like a business case because it is one.

Then, practice. Drills, call review, real work reviewed by operators who do the job now — the coaching stays grounded because the firm runs live pipeline work through Game Day every week. And Career Seasons: a quarterly review where your numbers get read the way a board reads a P&L — what moved, what didn't, what the next season's play is.

Verified numbers become PB Cards — personal bests with a figure and a date on them. Proof you can take into any interview, patch review or promotion case.

The ladder — start where you are

Every rung exists for a stage of the career. Exact prices are shared at the career kick-off and agreed before you commit — no surprise upsells, ever.

Stop applying. Start running a pipeline.

The Draft Board turns a job search into what it actually is — a sales process where you're the product and the offer is the close. A working board plus a short email course on running it, in Australian market reality.

  • The five-stage search pipeline, with the conversion rates that are actually normal.
  • Target selection: how to pick 20 companies instead of spraying 200.
  • The different application — what the other 290 people in the pile won't do.
  • Comp literacy in AUD: base, OTE, accelerators, and what to negotiate first.
  • The weekly review: 20 minutes that keeps the search honest.

We use this once. We don't sell your data. The Scoreboard newsletter is opt-in, not automatic.

Self-qualify before the call

Personal Best is for you if —

  • You're an SDR or BDR in seat who wants the next number and the next title.
  • You're an AE or account manager building a case for the bigger patch or the promotion.
  • You're a sales manager or director who wants the leadership path taken as seriously as the entry door.
  • You're a job seeker targeting sales roles who'll do the work — the board, the drills, the reviews.
  • You'd rather have a strategy and a practice cadence than a certificate.

It isn't for you if —

  • You want a certificate without doing the work. We don't issue them at all.
  • You refuse to record and review your own calls. Review is the method.
  • You're shopping for US-export salary promises. Australian numbers or no numbers.
  • You're a complete career-changer wanting a free entry pathway — Earlywork does that door well, and we'll point you there kindly.

Questions reps actually ask

Structurally. The US entry brands sell the first job — some sell it to employers, with you as the inventory — and their economics don't survive the flight: a "$100K+ in 35 days" claim is priced for San Francisco, not Sydney. Personal Best serves the whole career in Australian dollars: role selection, comp literacy, promotion planning, the leadership path. The entry door matters, but it's a door, not the building.

A certificate says you watched something. Hiring managers know, which is why certificates don't move interviews. What moves interviews is evidence: a run Draft Board, reviewed call recordings, PB Cards with numbers and dates on them. Everything here is built to produce that evidence — real work, reviewed by operators doing the job now. If a certificate is the goal, we're honestly the wrong shop.

Mid-career is the point. The market serves the entry door and abandons everyone after it — nobody teaches an AE how to build a promotion case, argue patch economics, or plan the path to leadership. That's the unserved middle Personal Best was built for: Season Pass for staying sharp in seat, the Leadership track for the first management chair. If you carry a quota, you're in scope.

The Draft runs four weeks: one live cohort session a week, plus three to four hours of real work — board updates, applications, drills. Match Fit is similar across six. Season Pass is lighter: a quarterly review, plus drills and call reviews you schedule around the job. None of it is content to binge; all of it is work that was worth doing anyway, now done with review.

Yes — AEST/AEDT, scheduled for people who carry a quota during the day. Sessions are live, not pre-recorded video sold as coaching; recordings exist for the week you genuinely can't make, not as the product. The examples, the comp figures and the market reality are Australian, because that's where you're negotiating.

Often, yes. Most Australian sales teams have a professional development budget, and a programme with drills, call review and a quarterly scoreboard is exactly what it exists for. We issue proper invoices to employers and can brief your manager on what the programme covers. If you're building the case: attainment, ramp speed and retention are the numbers managers buy. Team coaching exists for when they'd rather buy it for everyone.

Cohort programmes: full refund up to seven days before the cohort starts, and a full refund after session one if it's not what we said it was — decide inside the first week, not at week four. Season Pass is quarterly; cancel any time before the next quarter bills and nothing renews. What we don't refund is not doing the work, and we'll be straight about that upfront.

No — and here's why nobody honestly can. Your offer depends on market timing, sector, territory and your own reps, none of which a programme controls. Brands that promise "$100K+" are quoting another country's market at its top decile and calling it typical. What we can promise is the machinery that moves offers: a run pipeline, evidence, comp literacy, negotiation practice — and honest Australian numbers for your stage, so you know a fair offer when you see one.

The next step — and why it's this one
